3 Effective Ways To Send Your Music To Record Labels

Written by Omari MC

This isn't going to be an article detailing how amazing your music needs to be to get signed.

Sure there's a mixing and mastering standard that all songs need to have, but getting your record placed with major labels is completely subjective after that.

The question on everyone's mind is, "How do I stand out from everybody else?"

And there's no simple answer to that; however, taking wiser actions than the next musician is pivotal.

1. BE WISE ABOUT SUBMISSIONS

I may not have a record label just yet, but I take my fair share of music submissions for the blog.

I can tell you begging gets you nowhere. Giving YOURSELF enough opportunities to succeed gets you to where you want to be.

One way to do that is by submitting your music through an established music contact.

Why?

Because a music executive getting an email from a name they recognize is much more likely to get opened than from some random person.

Submitting in bulk saves a TON of time, and blogs and labels are much more likely to review your work if the email is coming from a name they know.

It cost $5 to send your music, but does it make more sense to spend 10 years submitting to 5,000 industry contacts, or spending $5 and having it done for you now?

2. BE WHERE THE LABELS ARE

If you were a new music blogger, where would you go if you wanted to listen to new music?

To more established music blogs!

Labels and bloggers are constantly checking other music blogs because they borrow content from each other.

And to be quite honest, blogs are becoming the new A&R's of the industry. The more blog coverage you get, the better chance you have of getting label's attention.

Labels DON'T want you coming to them without somewhat of an established fan base. The less money they have to spend on marketing, the better.

They have over 260,000 followers and every aspiring rapper needs all the blog coverage they can get.

It cost $5 for the feature, but that's nothing compared to tweeting out your music links all day without getting any significant results.

3. STICK IT IN THE POOL

Putting your music in a DJ pool is similar to submitting it for blogs, but instead of the music going to their inbox, it goes to a hub where multiple bloggers, DJ's, and label executives go to review music.

Nerve DJ's has about 2,500 contacts in their database, so submitting here could also hasten your submission process.

VERDICT

Submitting things in bulk is a huge time saver.

Case in point: the reason why you want more followers on Twitter, Facebook, or SoundCloud is so there are more people to broadcast your music too.

Look at submitting music through these services like you would a re-post on SoundCloud. It helps hasten the exposure process.

Also, when you submit to labels try and come up with a unique pitch. THINK like they think. Labels want really good artists in their repertoire, but they also have to make money to stay afloat.

If you can show them you're already making money and have a solid fan base, they're more likely to respond to you.
