  1. Global focus: One of the biggest mistakes artists make is thinking that they should only be promoting their music locally. If you look at the top 5 listener locations for major artists, almost ALL of them will have worldwide locations mixed in. Case in point: The United States is hardly even in the top 5 locations for Taylor Swift! We targeted global keywords and playlists for Esaria. For example, if there is a Party playlist in English, we would also target ‘party’ in several other languages.
  2. Cover songs: Another strategy free promo strategy is to cover songs from major artists. Sure, there is an initial fee to license the song, but you can get organic traffic from the cover as well. For example, Esaria covered a Whitney Houston song. We would make Whitney Houston related playlists and include that cover song right next to the Whitney Houston songs. In turn, you will see Esaria being recommended by YouTube’s algorithm for related Whitney Houston keywords!


  1. Contrarian thinking sells: One of the reasons you’re reading this article is because you saw that an A.I. artist is outperforming human artists. We would also use headlines like this when we ran IG & FB ads to drive traffic to Spotify playlists. Any ad you see on social media that gets you to stop and pay attention instead of scrolling past it is a winner. Save those ads and try to make headlines similar to them when making your ads.
  2. Decade playlists: Sometimes, it’s easier to get someone to agree they already like something vs. convincing them to like something new. We would run ads for decade playlists and include the cover songs/similar songs into the list. For example, if we make a 2010s best hits playlist, then including some newer songs into the mix still works. We would just tell listeners that we include other related songs in the description of the playlist.   • If you're going to run paid ads, they need to be done in a way where YOU would want to click on the ad you made
  • Unless you're planning tour stops or doing conversion ads for higher priced products, you should not be trying to only advertise in the United States or UK. Listening to music is a global experience. Spread out your ad spend to different countries and see what sticks.
