Rap groups have been around since the genre first emerged — with many of them finding great success along the way. If you have a few friends that you enjoy rapping with, you are probably wondering if rap groups are worth starting? The fact is there have been a lot of very successful rap groups in the history of music and you may luck out and end up following in their footsteps.

To help, here is a look at the best hip hop groups from the past as well as some of the best current rap groups around today.

Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five is a group that can be credited for the early creation of the hip hop genre. Active primarily during the 70s and 80s, they are still regarded today as one of the most influential hip hop acts in the history of the genre.

They were the first hip hop group to be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when they were inducted in 2007 by Jay-Z.

The Beastie Boys were formed in 1980s and were steadily active in the industry up until 2012. They are known for being the longest-lived hip hop acts in the entire world. The Beastie Boys were the 3rd hip hop group to be inducted in the Hall of Fame in 2012. Not long after, MCA passed away and they decided to end their music career.

Originally formed in 1992, Wu Tang Clan is considered to be one of the best hip hop bands in the history of music. They had artists that specialized in rhyme scheme as well as delivery. They are also among the most influential of these bands. You can still catch them touring and creating new music today.

A Tribe Called Quest was originally formed in 1985 and has had a sporadic career since then though they are still very much active today. They are widely recognized for being the pioneers of “alternative hip hop”, making them an idol to the underground artists. This group is still making new music and touring in the present time.

Run-D.M.C. was active between 1981 and 2002. They were the first group in this entire genre to have earned a gold record, an honor earned in 1984. When they were inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2009 by Eminem, they were only the second hip hop group to have that honor. They are not around today but their influence is still very much alive.

You know that you have made it in the rap industry when you have a blockbuster movie made about you. They are often credited for being the earliest and the most popular rappers in the gangsta rap genre.

This group primarily existed between 1986 and 1991, though they have done partial reunions in recent years. In 2016, they were inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Outkast had its first run in the industry when they formed in 1991 and lasted until 2007. In 2014, they rejoined to perform again and are still around today. They were masters of delivery in the rap game.  This group is easily one of the most successful hip hop groups ever.

KID TRAVIS (R&B, POP)

With an already buzzing YouTube audience of over 400K+ subscribers, Kid Travis wanted his Instagram profile to start gaining some of that same traction.

While you can get some spill over audience from YouTube, Kid Travis knew that Instagram ad campaigns could boost his presence on IG even further!

He discovered that trying to run Instagram ads yourself vs. having us add our years of experience and expertise to them made a huge difference!

His main goal was to achieve new followers who are seriously interested in his journey as an artist.

Kid Travis already had amazing talent but needed to combine his music genius with some marketing expertise to get the best of both worlds.

We were able to bring out the heart of his music through paid ads by editing & optimizing his existing videos and properly researching and structuring his ad campaigns.

The end results: We were able to consistently and predictably gain followers averaging between $0.25-$0.35 per follower (including a bulk of the promotion being done in high cost English speaking countries such as United States, United Kingdom, Australia, & Canada) resulting in around 4,000 new, engaged followers/month on Instagram.
