People are more likely to download covers (especially instrumental remakes & remixes) because often times they are trying to make their own remix of a popular song.
If you make cover songs, you probably download instrumental remakes all the time, so you know what I’m talking about!
Also, DJ’s are always looking to download music to add to their latest shows and mixes, so listeners are more likely to download remixes and cover versions as well.
If it’s just an original track, sometimes listeners would rather stream the music instead of downloading, but with covers, remixes, and instrumental remakes, they are much more likely to download.
If someone likes your song and wants to download it their initial reaction may be to go to a YouTube to mp3 site and download your song without giving you anything in return!
You spent hours working on a great song and your listener clearly likes your music enough to download it.
If you provide some with another alternative, they will be much more likely to subscribe to your channel!
The end result we're aiming for. A call-to-action button
INSIDE the video on mobile & desktop!
Some of the YouTubers and SoundClouders have gotten smart and started putting download gateways in their YouTube descriptions.
A download gateway is exchanging an mp3 or wav of your song in exchange for a follow/subscribe on YouTube, SoundCloud, or Spotify. People use this method to grow their YouTube & Spotify all the time.
There is a problem with this method however. 50% of your YouTube traffic is going to come from mobile devices!
That means 50% of people aren’t going to be scrolling all the way down to the description box for the download link! Instead, they’ll probably go to one of those Youtube to mp3 sites and download your cover songs the wrong way!
You’ll miss out on the subscriber by not having your download gateway link INSIDE your video!
Download gateway link in the description, but you can't really see this on mobile!
Some people try to put YouTube cards in their videos for download links. The problem with this is YouTube won’t allow you to link to a card for a website that you do not own.
A call-to-action overlay fixes our issue and you can set it up in a few minutes with this how-to video below!
The card is front and center and people are much more likely to click it from what we’ve seen.
SIDE NOTE: I know the internet has made our attention spans next to nothing. This video is under 10 minutes and will help you grow your audience immensely!
Make an adwords account at adwords.google.com. It is free to make your account and you will not have to spend any money even if you set up a campaign (as the video describes).
You’re going to make a new video campaign and put in some details for what you would want the campaign to run. Then at the end, you can run your campaign if you wish, but you do not have to.
The call-to-action button will still be available for your video even if you do not run the campaign!
Watch the short video above to get to this step!
