Doing your own music distribution is now becoming more popular than ever. This is due to the fact that it’s so easy to do and with so many different platforms available now, you can reach so many different people.
Once your track is done, all you need to do is edit the information, add some album art (if you want), hit send and voila! Your music is available on all the platforms of your choice. However, once this is done you need to be able to edit your profile in order to make sure your profile represents who you are as an artist and how you want your followers and listeners to see you. It’s not as easy as SoundCloud where you can just log on and start editing.
However, you can do this on Spotify or Apple Music, all you need to do is get verified and off you go! Asides from being able to control your profile the way you want to, it gives you that glorified tick which everyone aspires to have. The tick that says ‘I am a legit artist!’ You can post updates about tour dates, releases and connect with your fans more than ever. But how do you get verified?
Go to Spotify for Artists and click ‘Get Access’. Then you need to enter in your information and submit. It can sometimes take up to a week to get verified so try and be patient (we know it’s hard when you want to get going!) Spotify will need to make sure that you are who you claim to be and that the music that you are posting is your own – or appropriately credited.
For Apple Music you should head to Apple Music Connect and click sign up now. Then you click request access and sign in with your regular Apple ID. You can then fill in all your information that they request and press submit. Like Spotify, Apple Music can take up to a week to make sure all the information is correct and up to date before giving you that all so coveted tick.
As long as you’re making sure that all the information you supply is correct and easily verifiable then you shouldn’t have any problems. You will also need to make sure that any music you share is 100% yours to share, or make sure it is credited properly so you don’t end up being removed as a verified artist. If you do all of this you will be able to easily verify your account and luckily this process is available to everyone and anyone so whether you’re just starting out or have already got a following of fans you can use this platform to your advantage.
